I am a shareholder of Lomiko Metals a company that trades on the Canadian venture exchange LMr and in the USA under LMRMF. IS there room for more graphite companies to do what NGC and FMS did in the way of performance last year? Many people are noticing graphite now.

Thank you for the great article. Please advise if it is possible to have some new products by using graphite such as sim card for phone and computer. Thanks.

Best regards,

I've only just discovered your wonderful site and have spent several hours reading up on rare earths. Congratulations and many thanks.

However, on graphite you may have missed an important development. About 3 years ago Dr.Yi Cui of Stamford invented a silicon nano wire anode for the Li ion battery. It's all in Wikipedia (search Nanowire battery) with links to the original publications. This could give up to 10x battery capacity. They hope to have a prototype for small applications (phones etc) this year but the real win would be electric cars. It's not an entirely clear road (battery life etc) but if they can overcome or evade the problems this would be a huge game changer.

I'd love to get a slice of his start-up if such a company exists.

Be careful when investing in new graphite properties. Over the years, as China has driven up the price of graphite, older deposits are revisted and brought on line. Only to find that China will drive the price down to eliminate competition. It has happened in the past and will happen again. People need to remember that the deposits have been around, and looked at, for a long time. There are reasons why they were never fully developed in the past. These need to be fully studied prior to investment.

Can someone explain why CHGI increased sales by $6M last quarter, but at the same time increased accounts receivable by $17M? The sales and earnings improvements here all seem to be coming at the cost of a worsening balance sheet.

Thanks to this board for sharing their knowledge concerning flake graphite "GOLD". I came across this article written by Lifton and believe this is the sleeping giant just awakening.
In this new technilogical age along with rare earth metals, I must agree that Focus Metals sounds like the place to be especially due to it's size and geology. Once they uncover exactly what they have at Lac Knife I believe this story will be gigantic. As demand outstrips supply for these new precious metals and as Focus Metals moves foreward I believe this little gem will explode.
Remember the Dot Com's...Mark my words. Thank you for the insight and heads up and all the very best in the coming New Year.

HMMMMmmmmm. China produces 80% of world supply. There are only a few other players and they're rather small. Nobody is watching this sector..
THAT sounds familiar. Could be the commodities play of 2011?

Jack - Excellent article. With all the focus put on REE and Li since the last year, the strategic importantce of graphite was missed by many "experts".
Regarding FMS - From discussions I had at the last mining conference in Quebec City, Lac Knife deposit is of high quality and made of large flakes, production in the short is questionable.
