Last week TransCanada Corp responded to criticism from US environmentalists of its efforts to ship crude made from Canadian oil sands to the US.
American exceptionalism has added the dimension of exceptional stupidity with regard to our securing of future energy supplies.
TransCanada has responded as a rational entity to the confused hypocrisy now dominating the American government about economics in general, and energy efficiency and self-sufficiency in particular.
The clock is running on the bureaucratized mess that Washington’s self serving politicians have made of the US economy.
Fantasizing a green future without reinforcing the infrastructure to create it, or to even look at what is actually do-able, has now become the religion of American politicians of all stripes. Politicians, as ignorant of the infrastructure issues as they are of engineering, throw taxpayer IOUs at politically correct soothsayers to waste on beating dead horses, or guessing about technologies in which the USA is now several generations behind!
Washington’s IQ-challenged elites in their plush sandboxes, still believe that America is the world’s only possible engine of growth. This was made obvious in the last election primary cycle when clueless or worse (suborned) Hilary Clinton said she would reopen NAFTA if elected.
The Canadians said then, as TransCanada says now, if you don’t want our oil, gas, metals, minerals, and food products we’ll sell them to the Asians, mainly Chinese, so don’t worry about us.
America’s green future is looking more and more colorless as economic ignorance reigns in Washington’s elitist, statist, cultural cocoon.

There is a large pipeline project currently scheduled, running from Alberta to Texas. Whether it’ll be carrying oil sands crude, I don’t know. Surely the Big Problem in the Gulf of Mexico is going to make overland oil transmission a much more promising prospect. At least you can shut it off.
PS. The Transcanada XL line WILL be carrying tar sands crude.
I say let the Chinese have the Black goo, We need to develop small Nuclear energy plants like those offered by Hypernia. $70 mil. will produce enough energy for 25,000 homes. uranium used is non weapons grade and is 100% recylable. put the savings to a state of the art Energy Grid and unearthing rare earth metals. Re build our freakin rail transportation sytem. Do the math… oil sands are a very bad solution.
By the way has anybody here seen how the tar sands are mined?
Here’s a hint. It makes the gulf oil spill and kentucky coal fields look like a field of dreams.
By the way I agree with you about our legislators. Dumb as a box of rocks, and slimier than oil sands mining.
MR. LIFTON–
